Meet Melina Maria Morry: Chick Lit Author of The Manhattan Mishap and Thirteen Emotions
If I’m not serving looks, I’m writing chick lit books.
Hi, I’m Melina Maria Morry. A power woman, chick lit writer, and stay-at-home mom to three-year-old twin boys. As a Peruvian-Canadian author based in Los Angeles, I write contemporary women’s fiction, chick lit, and novels with fashion-forward plot lines. If you love style, romance, and drama stronger than a dirty martini, I’d recommend you pick up a copy of my multi-cultural fashion fiction novel, The Manhattan Mishap. Or if you’re in the mood to get in your feelings—with or without a glass of Avaline wine—then Thirteen Emotions is the short story collection for you.
I’ve always been a style-obsessed creative, ever since I was a little girl growing up in Victoria, British Columbia. My background is in fashion journalism, copywriting, and marketing. In a past life, I spent my days interviewing celebrities for magazines, penning personal essays, and short stories and blog posts. If I wasn’t a writer, I’d probably be a playlist creator or a stylist. Or maybe I’d fulfill my childhood dream of being an Olympic horse jumper. Who knows.
What I do know is that I love being a chick lit author. Creativity, connection; it allows me to explore relatable themes through a lens of humour and romance. Creating compelling characters who navigate the ups and downs of love, friendship, and self-discovery provides a chance to reflect the modern woman’s experience in a vibrant, engaging way. Each story I write uncovers the nuances of relationships and personal growth, making the genre both entertaining and empowering. At least, to me. As readers laugh, cry, and cheer for the characters, the author builds a bridge of empathy and inspiration, transforming everyday challenges into tales of resilience and joy.
Why do I write chick lit books?
I love the idea of people picking up a copy to read when they’re on vacation, hopping on a flight, laying by the pool, sunbathing on a white-sand beach. Glamour, happiness, celebration. It’s a time when people feel, dress, and look their best. And, call me greedy, but I want my chick lit books to be a part of that. It’s more than chick lit—it’s chic lit.
Some things I’m obsessed with, in no particular order:
Thrift shopping, salted caramel ice cream, dark roast coffee, gold hoop earrings, chick lit novels, true crimeasr podcasts, hot yoga, leopard prints, swimming in the ocean, vintage rom-coms, champagne, horseback riding, spicy salmon sushi, espresso martinis, and oversized blazers.
I currently live in Los Angeles with my husband, twin boys, and Maltipoo puppy.
Order your copies of The Manhattan Mishap and Thirteen Emotions via my bookstore or Amazon.
